Ensure you have an NCCP # – Go to The Coaches Locker

Prior to being hired to coach at SS Freestyle all coaches MUST have completed the following:

• Ensure you have an NCCP # – Go to The Coaches Locker to get your locker number if you do not have a locker #.

• Criminal Record Check ($45) -

  • Adult coaches (18-29): Criminal Check OR

  • Adult coaches (30 years and older : Criminal Record Check + Vulnerable Sector Check.

  • Criminal Record Checks and Vulnerable Sector Checks are available at the Vernon RCMP Detachment and take approximately 14-21 days once applied for. Coaches 17 or under do not need a Criminal Record Check in BC. There are often issues with Sterling Back Check so SS Freestyle Recommends going to the RCMP Detachment directly.

• NCCP Making Ethical Decisions - To obtain NCCP Making Ethical Decisions certification, coaches need to complete the online evaluation, which can be accessed for free through The Locker after completing the corresponding training module. OR alternatively, individuals can challenge the evaluation directly for a fee.

• NCCP Making Headway (Free) - To obtain the "Making Headway in Freestyle Ski" NCCP certification, you need to register for the free online module through The Locker. This module is specifically designed for coaches in freestyle skiing and focuses on concussion awareness and management. 

• NCCP Safesport for Coaches (Free) -To obtain the NCCP Making Safe Sport training, coaches need to register for a free account on The Locker, then access the Safe Sport Training module within the eLearning section.

• Annual Orientation and Safety Review - This orientation can be done on ZOOM or in person. In person is recommended if possible. Dates will be set closer to the winter season.

• Safety and Standards - SS Freestyle expects all coaches to operate safely while coaching and skiing with their groups. To help understand the standards SSF asks all coaches to frequently review the following recourses to stay safe:

What do NEW Coaches need?

All new Freestyle Ski Coaches need to complete the following:

• New coaches should apply to the Leadership program

• Go through the check list above to ensure you have:

  • NCCP #/Locker account, Criminal Record Check, MED, Making Headway, Safesport

• Fundamentalz Coaching Course — Register for a Fundamentalz Course – $350
