Academy Freestyle Activities

  • Athletic Foundations is a track and field training program that develops athletic movements required for athletes in all sports. Running, Jumping and Throwing are key movements to reaching potential as and athlete. This short 5 week cycle will get the freestyle athletes "moving" in the right direction for success in their sport.
  • S&C - (by Crossfit Vernon) introduces athletes to the life long skills of fitness.  The program delivered by Vernon CrossFit increases the performance and significant reduces risk of overuse injuries.  Click on the links below for more detailed information about the S&C program:
  • Yoga / Recovery -  this activity will give athletes an opportunity to calm their mind and body while improving flexibility and mobility.  Also great skills for longevity in sport.  And of course aid with recovery from strenuous participation in freestyle athlete training.
  • Treeline Park and Trampolines - SS Freestyle is looking to practice rails in the pre-season this year by incorporating a dry slope set-up.

Academy fees Approximately $1095- These fees are in draft form. We are still waiting for confirmation of facilities, practitioners and covid protocols going into this fall.  Budget for about a $1095 for in school activities (Athletic Foundations, S&C Crossfit, Yoga, Treeline)

Winter Fees Approximately $2000 for Full Winter program on snow-  Includes 3 days coach training on *Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays (some exceptions) and camp days.  Winter fees pay for coaching and coach travel expenses at select competitions.  These fees do not include athlete ski passes, equipment and competition travel expenses or licenses.

*On snow training - Thursday training will start early December and go through the winter.  The technical plan will be a combination of freeski, big mtn., big air and park for all those skiing on Thursdays.  On snow training fees include Thursdays.  Snowsports Academy ski athletes must be members of the SS Freestyle Development Team (head coach - Svin) or SS Freestyle Comp Team (head Coach - Hayden Person).  There no snowboard athletes in the snowsports academy for 2021/22.

Covid-19 practices - It is strongly recommended that all participants are DOUBLE VACCINATED  Athletes must follow all regional and provincial guidelines.  To operate this program the local Covid Safety guidelines must be approved by the Freestyle BC.

Membership and License - All participants must have a current Freestyle Canada membership and license.

    Hi Folks,

Thanks for applying for the 2021/2022 Snowsports Academy program.  Details have slowly been coming in.  We got the 2021/22 SD 22 schedule last week. The plans are to have a two semester system again this year.  But of course this could change if there is an up-take in Covid-19 cases this fall.

The SD 22 Snowsports Academy webpage has been updated as of August 23.  Click here.  Here you will find a draft schedule and approximate fees for this coming year.

At this time we ask the following:

    • Please review the proposed schedule and draft fees. Please note the SD 22 Academy is a supplement to the SS Freestyle club winter TEAM which you will be invited to in October.  After school fall training options will be circulated in the coming weeks. There will be trampoline and dry- slope rail options.
    • Please pay a deposit of $250 to show your intent to join the program.  Click here. This deposit is due by September 1. This deposit is fully refundable prior to September 15 if you decide the program is more than you were expecting. You will need to have paid a deposit by the deadline to participate in the program for this season. It is not guaranteed you will have a spot in the program if you have not paid the deposit.
    • Please look for an official invitation to the program from either coach Svin or Coach Hayden to the program. Some athletes may have a probationary period before being fully accepted into the program.

Lastly, I would like to let all the athletes know that if it is your goal to become the best you have ever hoped for (and then some) this program is for you. You will participate in a program that will give you the skills to get you past where you could have even imagined. This program will not be easy but if you take its challenges everyday you will achieve great things, become fit, ski better, jump better, rail better, and take on your fears like it's not a big thing.  Most of all you will be prepared for a strong future in skiing that is balanced with education and life.

Contact wade@ssfreestyle.com if you have any questions.

    Kind Regards,

    Wade Garrod, Program Director

    ~

    To Snowsports Academy athletes,

Here is some info on the proposed Airhouse sessions for the Thursdays double blocks.  I put a request into Air House to get the following type of sessions:

Parkour training - Parkour is probably the best way to teach crash technique and prevent injuries that may come of the learning bigger tricks in the future. The best action sport athletes in the world are also the best at managing crashes. This is how they stay healthy and get to the top. I requested half the session be Parkour based training.

Unstructured play - Another philosophy worth considering this time of year is some unstructured play time.  I requested for half unstructured (supervised only) play on tramp side of the house. Of course if athletes ask for some coaching a coach will be there.

DETAILS:  This is what Airhouse has come back with:

    •  $25 for 2 hours with their top parkour coach. 3 sessions $75.
        • Thursday May 16 - 12:30pm-2:30pm
        • Thursday May 23 - 9:00am-11:00am
        • Thursday May 30 -  12:30pm-2:30pm
      • Athletes will pay Air House directly through their website.  The link will be sent to those who RSVP.
Please confirm if you will attend and driving availability by filling out the on line form: https://www.ssfreestyle.com/event-3398834

Contact wade@ssfreestyle.com if you have any questions or comment below.  Please fill out the RSVP form by Friday May 10 (tomorrow) by end of day.

I am going to invite next years comp team athletes if they would like to join these sessions.  We will manage the coach / tramp to athlete ratio accordingly.

We can work on June plans next week.
